What Is Tekashi69’s Net Worth?

An American rapper, social media figure, and convicted felon, Tekashi69 has an estimated net worth of $500 thousand. Recognized as one of the most controversial figures in the rap scene, Tekashi’s notoriety stems from both his musical work and his tumultuous personal history. In 2015, he pleaded guilty to a felony for involving a child in a sexual performance. Then in 2018, he faced arrest related to racketeering, along with weapon and drug charges, and a conspiracy to murder. In exchange for a reduced two-year sentence, he agreed to testify against members of his previous gang. Subsequently, he was released early due to the COVID-19 pandemic and assigned to house arrest.

Despite a relatively short career thus far, Tekashi has managed to amass significant wealth. He reportedly secured multiple contracts and appearances that could potentially earn him tens of millions of dollars combined. The next paragraph will delve deeper into the specifics of Tekashi’s finances.

Financial Issues

Openly speaking, the financial situation of Tekashi69 is somewhat challenging to track from month to month. It’s undeniable that he has entered into various lucrative record and concert deals. Additionally, he has collected substantial earnings from streaming revenues, with his YouTube channel currently boasting 20 million followers and over 5 billion views.

Conversely, Tekashi’s career faced a substantial hiatus during his incarceration, effectively pausing his professional activities for two years.

In March 2022, he presented documents to a court indicating grave financial difficulties tied to a loss of income, primarily due to the two-year suspension of his career. His filings noted a lack of royalty income and a failure to generate funds through touring.

In detail, his submission asserted:

Right now, I am struggling to make ends meet. I do not know if I will ever command the kind of advances I was paid before my arrest and my career stalled.

These documents were associated with a civil suit launched by two of his former associates. He further indicated that moving forward with the lawsuit could potentially “bankrupt” him.

However, just a month later, Tekashi69 shared a video on Instagram displaying several million dollars in cash and at least a million dollars worth of vehicles:

The day following the post of the video on Instagram, Tekashi made an appearance on “TMZ Live” where he was directly asked by Harvey Levin to clarify how he could showcase so much cash while simultaneously asserting to a judge that he was broke. Below is a transcript of their discussion:

Harvey Levin:

You owe approximately a million dollars in restitution, and I understand you’ve informed a judge that you simply don’t have it.

Harvey’s co-host then contributed:

Your attorney mentioned bankruptcy was a possibility, correct?

Then Harvey added:

But you’re spending two million dollars. Doesn’t that make you vulnerable to having that money seized?

Tekashi responded:

I don’t have it right now. I ain’t got it. And that was prop money.

Early Life

Born Daniel Hernandez on May 8, 1996, in Bushwick, Brooklyn, New York, Tekashi69 grew up with a mother from Mexico and a father from Puerto Rico. He did not meet his father until he was nine, having believed up until that point that his father was deceased; Daniel Sr. was actually imprisoned due to a heroin addiction.

Later on, his father would assert that the mother’s family obstructed Daniel Sr. from having contact with Daniel Jr., even to the extent of tearing apart the letters he sent while incarcerated.

Financial difficulties plagued the family, particularly after Daniel’s stepfather was fatally shot on the steps of their home in 2010, at a time when Daniel was just 14. This tragic event resulted in significant psychological trauma for Daniel, necessitating therapy to address PTSD and depression. Around this period, he also began misbehaving at school, ultimately leading to his expulsion in 8th grade. To assist his family’s financial situation, Daniel took up a job at a grocery store after leaving school.

Rap Career

At the age of 16, Daniel ventured into rapping. A pivotal moment came when he encountered the CEO of a record label while working at a Brooklyn bodega. This record executive, Peter “Righteous P” Rogers, was the owner of Hikari-Ultra, and he encouraged Daniel to start releasing his original music.

Daniel’s debut song, fittingly named “69,” came out in 2014, followed by several other singles that year. Over the next three years, under the name Tekashi 6ix9ine, he released various albums and videos, achieving moderate recognition within the underground rap community. Following the 2018 album “Dummy Boy,” Tekashi69 dropped his second album, “TattleTales,” in 2020, which debuted at #4 on the U.S. “Billboard” 200 chart.

Success

In 2018, Tekashi69 launched his first mixtape, “Day69.” His initial single “Gummo” achieved #6 on the US Rap chart, #7 on the US R&B/Hip-Hop chart, and #12 on the “Billboard” Hot 100, earning a Gold certification. The track “Kooda” also received Gold status, reaching #29 on the US R&B/Hip-Hop chart and #50 on the “Billboard” Hot 100. His collaboration on the single “Keke” with Fetty Wap and A Boogie wit da Hoodie reached #20 on the US Rap chart, #22 on the US R&B/Hip-Hop chart, and #43 on the “Billboard” Hot 100.

Reported Record Deals

Tekashi69 has taken to social media to boast about various record and management agreements. In January 2018, he posted (in a now-deleted Instagram post) that he had secured a $7.5 million record deal. A month later, he claimed to have finalized a $15 million management agreement with Birdman’s RICHGANG. Roughly a month following that, he asserted a $4.9 million endorsement deal with a headphone company. However, several industry insiders we’ve contacted indicate that there is no evidence supporting the legitimacy of any of these claims.

$10 Million Deal

In October 2019, Tekashi confirmed a record agreement with the company 10K Projects, reportedly worth at least $10 million, which will include two forthcoming albums: one in English and another in Spanish.

GlobalStreamNow Deal

In July 2020, Tekashi announced a $5 million deal with the live-streaming platform GlobalStreamNow. This agreement includes a virtual performance scheduled for September 5, 2020.

On multiple occasions, Tekashi69 has faced arrests. He entered a guilty plea in 2015 for a felony charge concerning the use of a child in a sexual performance. As part of his punishment, he received three years of probation and was exempt from registering as a sex offender provided he did not share sexually explicit materials online and completed his GED. Ultimately, he did not pass his GED test. In July 2018, he was apprehended due to an outstanding warrant linked to an alleged choking incident at a mall in Houston.

In 2018, he faced additional charges regarding weapons, drugs, and racketeering. To evade a possible 47-year prison sentence, he concurred to testify against members of the Nine Trey Bloods gang, providing testimony over several days in September 2019. He explained that the Nine Trey Bloods permitted him to act as if he were a member as long as he financially supported their activities. He also shared details about how, following the release of his track “Gummo,” he began generating around $60,000 monthly from YouTube royalties and performance fees.

In December 2019, as part of a deal with federal prosecutors, he pled guilty.

Due to his cooperation with authorities, the judge ultimately sentenced Tekashi to just 13 months, while those he testified against face life sentences.

On March 22, 2020, he sought early release owing to the rampant spread of COVID-19 in the prison system. The government did not contest this request, leading to his release on April 2nd, even though he was originally set for release in August 2020.

In March 2023, Tekashi reportedly was attacked in a steam room at an LA Fitness gym located in Palm Beach County, Florida. Social media spread videos of the incident showing him with facial cuts and abrasions, and to date, one suspect has pled not guilty to the charges.

Release

On May 8, 2020, Tekashi unveiled his new song “Gooba” alongside a music video that rapidly broke the record for the largest 24-hour debut of a hip-hop video on YouTube, accumulating 40 million views within that timeframe. The former record, held by Eminem’s “Killshot,” was 38 million views set in 2018.

Within a week of its release, “Gooba” amassed over 150 million views.

On the same day, May 8th, Tekashi69 hosted an Instagram live session that attracted over two million viewers simultaneously, surpassing the previous record by more than 1.7 million.

Through various income channels, including YouTube ad revenue and Spotify royalties, Tekashi claimed to have earned $2 million from “Gooba” within a week. He also announced his plan to donate 10% of the profits to charity.

Personal Life

A few weeks prior to his incarceration at the end of 2018, Tekashi began a relationship with Rachel “Jade” Watley. He shares a daughter, born in October 2015, with Sara Molina, and another daughter, born in November 2018, with Marlayna M.

Fluent in Spanish, Tekashi has performed in Spanish on tracks such as “Bebe,” “Mala,” “Yaya,” and “Bori.” Additionally, he struggles with asthma.

After being released from prison, Tekashi settled into a modest home in Lido Beach. When a neighbor disclosed his location, he was forced to relocate and reportedly moved to an 8,500-square-foot residence in Water Mill, New York, overlooking a tree farm. At the time, the house was available for rent at $55,000.
