Early Life
Nayvadius DeMun Wilburn, better known as Future, was born on November 20, 1983, in Atlanta, Georgia. He gained the nickname “The Future” after joining the musical group The Dungeon Family. His cousin, Rico Wade, a record producer and member of The Dungeon Family, encouraged Future to hone his songwriting and rapping skills, ultimately pursuing music as a career. Wade provided a reprieve for Future from the challenges of street life. Over time, Future has acknowledged his cousin’s pivotal role in crafting his distinctive sound.
Career
In 2010, Future began his mixtape journey with releases such as “1000,” “Dirty Sprite,” and “True Story.” He collaborated with Gucci Mane to create the album “Free Bricks.” His popularity surged as DJ Esco played Future’s tracks at Magic City, a renowned strip club in Atlanta that has been instrumental in launching many careers of local rappers. In fall 2011, Future signed with Epic Records, quickly releasing the successful mixtape “Streetz Calling.” His first studio album, “Pluto,” followed in the spring of 2012, featuring multiple hits, including “Turn on the Lights,” which peaked at number two on the U.S. hip hop and R&B charts. In 2014, he put out his second album, “Honest,” followed by “DS2” in 2015 and “Evol” in 2016. In mid-October 2018, Future teamed up with the late Juice Wrld to drop the mixtape “Wrld on Drugs,” which debuted at number two on the U.S. charts, just behind the soundtrack for “A Star Is Born” featuring Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga. This mixtape marked Future’s tenth top 10 album in the U.S. “Future Hndrxx Presents: The Wizrd,” released in January 2019, served as both his seventh studio album and the soundtrack for the film “The Wizrd,” which premiered on Apple Music on January 11, 2019.
